650 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: **ARCHIVED** 0 - Assignment Day
Location: Starfleet Academy, various locations
Timeline: 06-04-2370 0900hrs

René showed his ID to the guard at the gate of Starfleet Academy. He shifted the weight of his 'seabag' on his shoulder as he waited for the security cadet to check his name against the list of Starfleet Academy newcomers. He looked about the campus grounds, feeling a sense of awe at his arrival.

The guard finally looked up and pointed to a building. "Go to that building. You'll receive an in-processing checklist and compass map downloaded to your PADD there."

René gave a nod of his head as he took back his ID card. He looked at the building and started off with a sigh. 'Two hundred meters with a 20 kilo load. Hopefully I get my dorm assignment first', he thought to himself.

It was a good five minute trek to the building and about another hour where René's credentials were checked three more times during his initial reception processing before he stood in an open bay office with a second 'seabag' full of uniforms. He took a seat at a desk when his name was called and gave his newly issued Starfleet ID card to the enlisted yeoman. He gave the yeoman a charming smile. "René Rouen, pleasure to meet you yeoman...."

The yeoman looked up at René and sighed. "Cadets are prohibited from fraternization with enlisted Academy staff so you can save the attempt to charming my socks off."

René gave the yeoman an apology as she keyed in his information for Dormitory and room assignment. "Sorry, I wasn't trying to offend you. I have been at all boys Catholic schoosl for most of my education up to this point. Not used to being on a coed campus."

The yeoman let loose a little chuckle. "Well Cadet Rouen. You will find that Starfleet Academy is an institution that not only is a coeducational facility amongst humans, but for species that can have upwards of four genders in attendance."

René nodded as he looked down at his billeting assignment now coming up in on his PADD screen. "Roger that." He looked up at the yeoman. "Do you think I would have time to go by my dormitory to shower and change before my first orientation brief?"

The yeoman shrugged. "First orientation briefing will be at 1300 hours in James T. Kirk Hall. Though you may want to be in your seat 15 minutes prior with PADD and stylus in hand."

René rose to his feet and offered one last nod as the yeoman called for the next cadet. He used the map on his PADD and lugged his gear to the dormitory. He gave a smile and nod to everyone he met on the way to his dormitory. He entered the building and took the turbolift to the second floor. He found the room number from his PADD and looked at the signs to the right of the door. Only two names were listed. Rouen, R. and one other. He keyed in his personal access code and entered.

René felt a rush of excitement as he put his bags on the empty bunk in his new room. He was going to be truly on his own for the first time in his life. He sat down on his bunk and looked about the room. He pulled out a uniform from his newly issued bag along with boots, socks and underwear. He opened his personal bag and pulled out his toiletries before heading to the fresher.

Rene stepped out of the fresher clad in a towel around his waist and flip flop slippers on his feet. He wandered back to his bunk and prepared to get dress when the door opened. He turned to see if a new roommate was arriving and froze in place. He was not expecting to see a young woman standing in the doorway.

"Um...are you Renée Rouen?" The beautiful young woman asked.

True that, but if he finds true love he will be steadfast and loyal.
