**ARCHIVED** 0 - Assignment Day
Location: Starfleet Academy Grounds
Timeline: MD -7 Last day of classes before boarding
Felix hardly heard a word his virology professor said as he sat in the back of class. He scratched behind his ear, then examined his paw-like hand and licked it a few times, eager for class to end. This would be his last traditional class for a while as he’d been selected along with other cadets to serve on the USS Stardancer and serve with other Starfleet ships in the fight against the Dominion! The fur on the back of his neck stood on end with excitement just thinking about the adventure that awaited him.
Finally class was over, holding back his excitement he walked calmly, but quickly through the hall, and out of the Academy doors. Once he reached the quad, and much to Boothby’s dismay, Felix dropped down to all fours and took off sprinting through the grounds. He was careful around the flowers, he knew how hard the groundskeeper worked at them, but sometimes he just needed to run. He found one of his favorite trees on the far end of the quad and quickly scaled it. He stretched out on his stomach on one of the higher branches before tucking his legs underneath him and he let his tail sway lazily in the breeze.
Several minutes later his friends Steve and Anaiah showed up, somewhat out of breath from jogging out to find him. They stood at the bottom of the tree and looked up at their Caitian friend.
“Why’d you run off?” Anaiah asked. “It’s your last day, we wanted to take you out to celebrate.”
“Yeah, are you too good for us now that they are practically giving you a commission?” Steve added jovially.
“Of course not,” Felix answered as he scrambled down the tree headfirst, jumping before he reached the bottom and landing upright to face his friends who had tracked him down. “Celebrate?” he asked. “I wasn’t aware that you wanted to do something this evening, of course I’d be happy to spend time with you before I leave.” Felix shook his body, scratching his fur lightly, ridding himself of loose leaves and bark that had stuck to his fur.
“Nooo…” Anaiah said, a hint of exasperation in her voice. “It was supposed to be a surprise. Everyone’s gathering at O’Malley’s like right now. We were supposed to get you there after class, but you literally ran off.”
Felix’s eyes widened with excitement. “A surprise party? For me?” he asked, placing his palm on his chest. “Wow, I didn’t expect…”
Steve clapped him on the back, “Yeah save it for the party. You’re going to need to act surprised for everyone else. We put a lot of work into keeping this a secret.”
Felix nodded. “Ok, right,” he said seriously as he walked with his friends. “Should I go change?” he asked.
“No!” the two said in unison. Steve continued, “It’s a surprise, you didn’t know this was coming, you were just on your way from class… or climbing trees. Why would you be in party clothes.”
“Right, right, of course,” Felix said nodding in agreement. “Well this is certainly something. Thank you both for putting this together. And for coming out to find me just now.” Felix walked with a happy grin on his face as he stood a little taller and looked around the grounds on his way to his very own surprise party.

I like the realism expressed here. A cat acting like a cat. Keep this up. I am certain wwe will all put out some amazing JPs.
